The Challenge: The brief was to create an office-space for the client’s R&D business offering an inspiring environment for engineers. The design needed to address the needs of varied team-sizes with each team having a stand-up area close to their workspace in addition to focus-rooms/ Code-boxes. The design had to be flexible enough to accommodate small/large teams based on the nature of the assignment. The design had to be delivered within the assigned costs/timelines with future proofing the design for a period of 5-6years. The Process After brief-nurturing workshops with the client we arrived at the design-need to be largely skewed towards “I” workspaces- for technology-developers whose jobs demanded focus-working. Implemented as a model throughout the office; we created team-spaces of 16-20 people which are self-sustaining with of standup areas for each team, 2 code-boxes (2pax) and a shared focus-room between 2 teams. The workstations were planned with legacy-space of 46sft around each desk, power-connectivity on the floor and mobility as per individual needs. The team-spaces can mutate to be a large/small at anytime through strategically planned movable partition-walls. Lockers were planned in the nearby passageways.

The Design- The office design is a well-balanced space that enables collaboration by providing easy access to these hubs across the office and also at key entrance points. The collab-hubs are designed to play host for teams to exchange ideas, deliberate, socialize placed along the main circulation passage. The visual trend of creating spaces which are Raw, Industrial, warm and welcoming is being accepted more and more. This office is designed to reflect an underlined concept of “City scapes” (inspired from Hyderabad) where the passages are streets- social spaces at the junction of streets. Our different approach in planning helped us getting close to this theme. Here’s a rendition of the concept of this project: “Cities can be modern and future-ready without losing touch with their past. It is this intersection of old and new, of tradition and technology, of the ancient with the freshly-minted, that creates a distinctive character. Here, the noise and bustle of the marketplace hold their own against the steel and glass of high-rise buildings. This office reflects this character of Hyderabad city ….the transitory nature of this office space gives a great opportunity to create an environment which is natural, raw and textured with rough and unfinished edges and depicting the urban sprawl just like the city it belongs to. It’s a place of rich and varied contrasts: Where the ancient thrives alongside the brand-new. Where the past and the future co-exist.” Sustainability has been ensured through intelligent use of green materials, planning and MEP design. As a result of above ideas and concept we have been successful in achieving the goal of creating yet another workspace which belongs uniquely to the end user. A space understated and inspiring at the same time. A space which is a proof of concept for changing workspaces of the end user with a very strong evidence of the place where it belongs to.
