The client’s theatrette at 1 Market Street had not been refurbished for 15yrs and was looking tired. The scope was a 36-person theatrette, a bar and lounge. Our client wanted to lift the user experience by creating a space that was more contemporary, more comfortable and with added functionality. The bar needed to be suitable for hosting catered daytime & evening events. The brief was for sophisticated and timeless, without being over the top.

The design intent of the client was to create a relaxed hospitality and entertaining experience for the guests who come to view screenings in the theatrette. The design intent was to create space of relaxed leisure, with seamless change from the theatre to bar, that could easily transition from day to night use. A mixture of soft grey textured hues on the floors was used to contrast with a refined, rich palette of deep navy and green tones. Warm walnut timbers, textured stone, and hints of soft floral pattern upholstery were used to create a modern, timeless look and feel. Hints of brass where overlaid to create a sophisticated, stylish and understated design suitable for various types of entertainment.
