The client wanted to provide its members with a new state-of-the-art conferencing and member center that provides amenities that would both attract and retain members. The new space sought to allow visiting lawyers who might be in town for trial a place to hold meetings or just decompress in between hearings. A unique challenge was the need to provide transparency during certain times, but complete privacy (both visual and acoustic) when there might be sensitive meetings. Another challenge was the need to update the “traditional” law aesthetic to a more modern, sleek and fresh design. The need to balance the old with the new became apparent in an effort to appease current and new members.
The use of glass, carpet for acoustics and drapery for both acoustics and visual privacy helped us provide a flexible meeting environment for all scenarios. The glass provided the room barrier, but with the addition of a drapery adjacent the glazing, the end user has the opportunity to visually close off the room. In order to address the need to balance old and new, we used the Shaw Alchemy to provide a neutral, textural and rich background to the palette and layered in modern furnishings with traditional fabrics. Wood tones remained dark in stain, but ceramic tile lightened up the space as well as modern lighting.
