The life-saving mission of the client is to create sustainable solutions to ending poverty and hunger in developing nations. The organization focuses on a wide range of research-based solutions spanning policy change to long and short range environmental and agricultural programs. The design of the client’s new 100,000 square foot headquarters thematically and functionally emphasizes their mission through the use of wood and other natural material finishes, as well as providing access to natural light and views of the outdoors for all staff. Finish selections include warm golden tones symbolic of harvest time in Autumn, and green accents representing nourishing plant-life. The carpet selections from Shaw incorporate organic textures and colors inspired by nature. By utilizing the principles of biophilic design as a foundation of the design of the space, the staff is strongly connected to the organic world and to the organization’s mission. Macro and micro branding – from the client’s logo created as a metal sculpture in the reception, to unique, thematic carpet selections throughout the space — subtlety reinforces themes of water, soil, planting and harvest. Guests and staff alike are reminded at every turn within the space of the organization’s mission to fight poverty and hunger throughout the world.

Freedom and flexibility in the client’s workplace sprout from the sculptural wall featuring the organization’s logo. The curved feature wall separates from the large conference center and open event space. The conference center can be partitioned into four separate rooms, and features breakout spaces, high-top collaboration areas and a VIP Suite. Two columns were removed, and structural elements were added in the ceiling to create a large open meeting space. The open multifunctional space and natural finishes established at the entrance are carried into the large lunchroom. Food prep and a healthy fresh vending area are located in dedicated spaces to keep sound and smell distractions to a minimum. A drop ceiling ribbon feature serves dual purpose as a sculptural branding element that fluidly transforms into high-top counter. Multiple seating types are provided, transforming the space into a collaboration / work place that is utilized throughout the day.
