The client’s new creative workplace in San Diego is an innovative, free-address and paperless headquarters located within a mixed-use retail and restaurant environment at Westfield. As the global leader in real estate services, the client’s goal was to create the go-to meeting space for every real estate transaction in San Diego. This goal was accomplished by leveraging hospitality centered design strategies coupled with innovative workspaces. The design has positively impacted the client by providing a new benchmark for the commercial real estate industry. The client’s new workspace is organized to reflect the various San Diego geographical zones: coastal, mountains, city and parks. A soaring concierge space known as The Heart serves as a gathering space for employees, clients and event functions. The wood planked ceiling provides a warm effect to the lower ceiling areas, creating an element of comfort and enhanced acoustics. The lighting design is inspired by the stars over the ocean, with clustered pendants placed over the concierge desk to draw guests to the social center of the space. Driftwood inspired wood flooring creates a relaxed coastal feel throughout. Coffered ceilings and sheer draperies accentuate the height and drama of the space and highlight views to the outside. The lounge, with a fireplace clad in steel, is surrounded by white textured tile and brass tone shelving and accent lighting. This hospitality area becomes the perfect place to meet with a client or colleague, with luxuriously custom colored area rugs from Shaw Contract, inspired by the colors and tones of the ocean.

The client’s employees have freedom and flexibility within their workplace and are surrounded by various amenities. Reinforcing the client’s Workplace 360 strategy, the office design promotes collaboration, focus, and mobility within an open, free-address space. Adjustable sit-stand desks are in the open neighborhoods, each color coded to graduate as you make your way around the space. Along with sit-stand desk rows, the neighborhoods include collaboration tables, private offices, phone rooms and board rooms. The client’s employees have the option to use any of these neighborhoods for their workspace along with the comfortable lounge experience in The Heart. The client’s location in the Westfield mixed-use retail center celebrates the emerging culture of live, work, play. Employees have easy access to various amenities which include various restaurants and fitness centers.
