The newly designed resident corridors were designed to create visual and physiological impact by introducing contrast, contemporary design, cool color tones coupled with warm, organic shapes. Introducing these values and principles of design we wanted to create major impact for the residence as they left and entered their suites on a daily basis. The Shaw Contract, Emergence carpet tile perfectly fit within the design concept and tied the entire resident corridors together harmoniously. By creating and implementing this “Soft” + “Harsh” concept we intended to please all tenant’s personal aesthetic. The harsh, rich, contrasting palette appeals to the “contemporary” resident wanting to live in a new, modern building that currently sits in the heart of downtown San Jose, CA. The soft, organic shapes, shadows and natural wood was intended to calm the residence that wants to feel like they are living in a residential neighborhood and once they get home, they feel safe and relaxed. Pairing these two ideas in the built environment will positively impact all residence to come home to their beautiful suite everyday. This concept was developed and executed to withstand the test of time, while still feeling relevant and classic over the next decade(s), impacting their current and future residence visually and physiologically.
