When tasked with building an innovation centre, one would envision creative individuals developing ideas and what we developed was much more than catering to the needs of the individual. The need to collaborate and incubate creativity by forming bonds within the users, therefore, allowing freedom of expression of ideas and acceptance of constructive criticism. In order to allow for innovation to take place, ideas have to be expressed and developed in a space that allows for open discussion in a positive environment so it was fundamental to develop the culture of the office by integrating a deeper bond between its users
From the initial stages of this project, the client’s envisioned their space to have the ability to seamlessly connect and communicate freely with its users. In order to achieve this level of a fluid collaborative work environment and yet still maintain structure and simplicity, we took advantage of visual queues. By introducing symmetry and block-colored spaces it created spacial awareness between departments without constructing barriers as well as familiarity between spaces, therefore, increasing the level of comfort for its users. In addition, hot desking was another element we employed to increase the dynamic culture within the organization. This, in turn, would allow for more communication between its users and being more exposed to changing neighbors will initiate new bonds with people you would have otherwise would not have met.
