In 2017, the firm was selected by a national healthcare provider to play a major role in its revival by transforming a new 2000m2 workspace. The organisation was going through a transition; merging two companies, and wanted their new environment to set the tone for a new exciting beginning. Our in-depth understanding of workplace culture and the uncertainty mergers create for employees produced the starting block for our conceptual base. Our earliest design conversations focused on colour – and the leading role it would play in setting a new positive and comforting tone for employees. Innovative colour use would prove to transcend the different employee needs, and create a workplace that achieved both a sense of excitement and tranquillity. The Shaw Contract Active range was the perfect fit for creating a sense of renewed energy and fresh purpose for the new organisation. Shaw Contract’s Advance was the ideal complement to the brightly painted feature walls in the main workstation area. The feature flooring provided a positive link between key work areas and meeting spaces, and the energy and flow it created between areas perfectly captured the positivity this new business was aiming to achieve. Focus on employee wellbeing and an overall positive impact on the environment are key drivers for how the firm designed and selected products, and this project was no exception. Key to our ethos is promoting wellbeing through a people-centric approach to design, where workspaces have been specifically transformed to cater for individuals and teams to strengthen their experience at work and also their performance.
Freedom and flexibility are key concerns for any employee or employer – and even more so after a merger. Offering a positive work environment is key – across both workplace culture, corporate practices and, of course, the physical work environment. The firm worked to generate positive energy and a feeling of endless possibilities by creating a floorplan teaming with diversity and mixed-use spaces. From the main workspace through to breakout spaces, meeting rooms, multi-purpose open areas and amenities, the firm’s objective was to empower the employees to work in the most efficient way. Pathways from work areas to key breakout spaces were created using the Dash Tile in a combination of Track Tile and Turn Tile. As employees cross the workspace to communicate and collaborate with other teams, they are inspired by the feeling of pace and progress provided by the Shaw Contract flooring. Breakout areas were pivotal to the overall success of the clients’ vision – creating a unified culture within one organisation, where people meet, brainstorm and problem solve face-to-face. Bright furnishings excite employees as they get together in the breakout spaces to work together across team or divisional boundaries. The breakouts also provide employees with a place to focus away from their desks – a series of oases in an otherwise humming workplace. Workstations created for ‘bring your own devices’ empower employees to arrange themselves at the desk that works best for them on that day – the ultimate in flexible working and open collaboration.
