The client, one of the largest leading law firms in Japan, locates the office at the center of Tokyo. AMT occupies 16-23rd floor of the building by the Imperial Palace. The main challenge of the project was to express the firm’s sense of security, Dignity, and Transparency through design of the conference area to establish the sense of reliability. AMT also wanted the design of open office to be as transparent as possible, challenges the impression of typical law firm, the state of being closed.
Superb prospect from the site was one of the factors that helps respond to the challenge. Inspired by the given environment, we came up with design concept “FLOWING”. We started with paying extra attention to the relationship between interior space configuration and the generous nature of imperial palace in order to incorporate the richness into the space. Main corridor of conference space radiates from the closed reception, the floor pattern and lighting follows to create the flow towards the view outside to emphasize the richness and dynamism. Natural texture used on materials/finishes and artworks refers to the flow of the nature which add an extra accent to the design of conference rooms to convey the design keywords to visitors. As for the open office space, to change the impression of law firm, use of glazing for the private office expresses the sense of transparency and overall use of various carpet patterns and graphics aesthetically helps archive the project goal.
