Today, the client is India’s leading producer and retailer of watches, jewellery, eyewear and accessories with an international presence spanning across more than 2,000 stores in over 30 countries. Their vision and mission has always been at the center of everything they do and they have always placed a significant value on their people. Managing Director, Bhaskar Bhat, and his team therefore felt the need for new a headquarters that represented their vision and would enable team members to better achieve their mission: “We create elevating experiences for the people we touch and significantly impact the world we work in. We will do this through a pioneering spirit and a caring, value-driven culture that fosters innovation, drives performance and ensures the highest global standards in everything we do.” The client’s objective for their new headquarters boiled down to creating a space that serves to enhance people’s experience and well-being – one that encompassed versatile work settings, easy accessibility, proximity to nature, the use of sustainable materials and a space that inspired creative and innovative thinking.
Their new campus has allowed the client to: 1. Create elevating experiences for their own employees by blurring the lines between hospitality and the workplace. 2.Become pioneers in sustainability through the use of local and sustainable materials, facilitating proximity to nature and the use of ceiling fans which circulate natural air thereby eliminating the need for air conditioning. 3. Foster innovation and performance via flexible work settings that encourage both focused and collaborative work. 4. Further encourage a ‘flat hierarchy’ system, which implies that a manager is part of the team and should therefore be seated with them. The client’s corporate values also played a significant role in determining the overall design language for the new campus, which are: Total Customer Orientation, Employee Appreciation, Performance Culture & Teamwork, Creativity & Innovation, Passion for Excellence and Corporate Citizenship. Ramesh Subramaniam, Director for International Design revealed, “The seed of our design thought was taking the above six values and translating them into something tangible, forming the basis of the design language; in this case, the defined form of a hexagon. This became the representative element connecting various spaces thereby creating a symbiotic relationship between the build architecture and the collaborative workspaces within.”
