A reputable financial solutions company, desired a reimagined workspace that promotes collaboration and offers users increased flexibility and mobility, infused with a sense of “living the brand”. The key challenge was therefore to fold the essence of the company into the design. The spatial allowance was considerable, and through analysing floor plate dimensions, column spacing and window mullions, the design team found that to inculcate a sense of belonging, a fine line between utility and culture had to be threaded. The project required meticulous research, including the flexibility for future growth and change. Observing the ground, different teams often had contrasting requirements. While some executed teleconference calls or shone by working solo, others required brainstorming, discussion and interaction areas.
For employees to feel a sense of belonging to the brand, the end product had to be designed with the users in mind, creating zones that amp up or down sensory stimulation – from a bustling open common space, to quiet solitary work. Socialising, rejuvenation, learning, collaboration and focus are just a few essential factors for an overall conducive work environment. Special attention was paid to material selection, with Shaw Contract tiles that match the design intent. Aside from being certified by the Singapore Green Labelling Scheme (SGLS), SCA Design had to ensure sustainable materials and environmental products were utilised, echoing the key objectives of the modus operandi – health and wellness of their employees. Optimising the new workplace by function rather than job position enabled the office space to reflect cohesiveness, fostering a collaborative environment. A variety of discussion areas sport a ‘hangout’ concept, with banquette style meeting pods, open concept stations for client servicing, breakout zones for brainstorming and bar counters with high chairs. For more private conversations, there are single-desk rooms, while diverse meeting room designs suit every occasion, some with frosted glass panels for privacy. As a finishing touch, green walls liven up the office space and iterate a healthy environment for both employees and visitors.
